The Nordic Seminar on National Institutions in the Nordic setting. The Nordic human rights institutions have a long tradition in organizing biennial seminars where academics, practitioners, NGO-representatives and others meet to discuss current human rights issues. In 2007, the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights in Oslo organized such a seminar under the heading” The Human Rights Architecture”. This year, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Lund is in turn to invite to a seminar. The theme for the seminar is “National Human Rights Institutions in a Nordic Setting”. In view of the Principles relating to the Status and Functioning of National Institutions for Protection of Human Rights (the Paris Principles), the current development of the Danish and Norwegian national institutions – the Danish Institute for Human Rights and the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, respectively - and recent proposals for establishing similar institutions in Iceland, Sweden and Finland, the topic is highly relevant to governments and their agencies as well as to academics, practitioners, NGO-representatives and others interested in the subject. The seminar will be held between the 22nd and the 23rd of April. For further information about speakers, workshops and registration please contact Susanne Svensson at susanne.svensson@rwi.lu.se |
